Abstract

The increasing population, rapidly growing economy, rapid urbanization, and the improved standard of living of the community have speeded up waste generation. The amount of waste generation in Kotabaru Regency increased from 47,540.81 tons/year in 2021 to 66,175.43 tons/year in 2024. Most of the residual waste is currently disposed of in landfills. One of the strategies that can be applied is to implement waste-to-energy processing, known as Waste to Energy (WtE). The purpose of this study is to determine the potential for energy utilization from waste in Kotabaru Regency. The method used is by using the typical value in Tchobanoglous et al (1993). The results of the analysis show that the chemical formula of Kotabaru Regency waste per day without sulfur content is C34H52O18N (without water) and C34H52O18N (with water). Meanwhile, the chemical formula with sulfur content is C463H714O252N14S (without water) and C463H743O267N14S (with water). The chemical formula of waste with sulfur was then analyzed to determine the WtE potential of waste in Tabalong Regency. The results of the analysis show that the potential energy using wet weight is 8,993 Btu/day or 9,489 kJ/day. While the potential energy if the waste uses dry weight is 8,768 Btu/day or 9,251 kJ/day.
